Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) is the only political organization of the eleven multilingual indigenous Jumma people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), located in the southeastern part of Bangladesh. It was established in February 1972, its vision based on the principles of democracy, equality and social justice.
PCJSS was formed in response to the negligence, deprivation and exploitation enforced by the colonists of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The Jumma people of CHT have been cruelly oppressed and exploited for many years: during the British Period, the oppression and exploitation of the colonizers; during the Pakistani period, the exploitation and conspiracy of the Islamic fundamentalists and expansionists; and during the Bangladeshi period, the deception, oppression and exploitation of the nationalists, fundamentalists and expansionists.
With the goal of establishing an equal society, free of exploitation, the democratic and progressive forces of CHT united under PCJSS. Their aims and objectives include:
To do away with difference, oppression, exploitation and deprivation among the various multilingual small nationalities in CHT.
To establish the right of self-determination of the Jumma people with constitutional guarantees.
To develop the political, economic, social and cultural existence of the various multilingual nationalities of CHT.
To do away with the undemocratic and feudal leadership, and oppose and resist the narrow nationalism, fundamentalism and expansionism in CHT.
To unite in the freedom movement, aiming for establishing equal rights and dignity of the women in society.
